In this video I will take you through how I designed and built my own muffler. My straight pipe exhaust was becoming annoying and I had to do something about it. Unfortunately, standard mufflers were too big for the small space I had to work with and I decided to build my own muffler. I modeled my design after the flow master delta flow series. Professionally engineered mufflers are carefully designed to eliminate unwanted frequencies using a number of techniques. With limited resources I am hoping to achieve a lower overall peak sound level while not obstructing flow and creating too much back pressure. In the test under no load, no back pressure was produced. Under full throttle load on the highway, I recorded a peak of ~3psi back pressure. Not bad! Overall, this muffler has made the car a lot quieter than straight pipe exhaust, although it is still pretty loud.
