Here are some of the best woodland walk locations to catch these illusive blue beauties across the county. 1. Calder Vale - This is probably my favourite spot for bluebell photography. It’s only a short walk through the woodlands, no more than a mile - but it’s a nice drive out to the village of Calder Vale, and it’s perfect for taking little ones for a short stroll, especially during bluebell season. The woodlands are teeming with nature, there’s a beautiful pond with lots of birdlife and fish splashing about, and the route walks alongside the River Calder, so your dogs can have a splash too! 2. Brinscall Woods - I actually grew up in this village, and the bluebells came out in force here every year. There’s plenty of walks in the area, including a cracking ramble up to Great Hill (listed on my website here; Nevertheless, the bluebells aren’t too hard to find once entering the woodlands early May, highly recommend this spot for bluebell photography. 3. Marles Wood - located off the River Ribble in Ribchester, this is a stunning stretch full of bluebells with wild garlic as well. I intend on walking further down along the river before looping back once crossing the Ribchester bridge. Marles Wood is also right next to the field used for the Royal Lancashire Show around July each year. 4. Bowland Wild Boar Park - A bit of a ‘wild’ card is this one, especially as you’d need to pay to enter the park (open at the weekend, bank holidays and summer holidays). Bowland Wild Boar Park is a fantastic day out for families, with farm animal petting areas, the education centre full of exotic creatures, tractor rides, woodland trails and a busy cafe. The trail was filled with bluebells on my last visit in May, just magical. They also have a newly built holiday park, aptly named Bowland Escapes, offering a number of accommodation types including: luxury lodges, shepherd's huts, safari tents, glamping pods and an incredibly unique ironage roundhouse. Check them out at https://www.bowlandescapes.co.uk 5. Spring Wood, Whalley - Probably one of the best, well known spots for bluebells. Located in the town of Whalley near Clitheroe, Spring Wood offers some lovely woodland trails, well worth exploring. Note, the woodland is based on a hillside, so it’s not a flat walk by any means. Still, with easy, well marked trails, it’s definitely family friendly. That’s just my top spots for bluebell walks - where are some of your favourite locations for bluebells across Lancashire?
