A crash, race action, slightly damp thursday and pit stop impressions from the 2025 24 Hours of Spa. Enjoy! Sorry about the issues with audio and visual quality, I've done what I can do mitigate them in post. As is almost tradition at this point, my main camera died throughout the 24h weekend and my backup also has issues, as you can tell. Anyhow, this race is just mega. Cameras and TV can only do it so much justice, even with the great TV broadcast this year. For the first time ever, I loved the way drones were utilised, giving viewers great quality action and angles that aren't normally possible. I strongly recommend visiting this event if you get the chance, the views and atmosphere from the new grandstands are just incredible. Dust really is a killer for Panasonic camcorders, there are so many fragile points it can easily get in to. This time, my main cameras display image kept flipping by 180° as if I had turned it around. The camera automatically detects when the display is physically turned around and adjust the image accordingly. AFAIK, this is done with the help of a small magnet or sensor in combination with the ribbon cable. In their genius, Panasonic have not included an option within the settings to turn this "feature" off 🤦‍♂️. As there is no view finder, tracking objects becomes an impossible headache 🤣. Morever, the ribbon cable is not protected and can easily be reached by debris and detritus via the open hinge of the display. If you carefully examine the hinge when the display is folded open, the exposed orange ribbon cable can be seen. Cleaning/repairing that area may be possible, but it is not the easiest of tasks. In addition, the undersized zoom knob has developed some annoying drift. The camera is a write off and the second of this model that I have "gone through". Therefore I'm forced to put a dent in my finances and purchase a slightly better, newer model (which is absurdly expensive for the outdated technology btw.), which I will cover, seal and secure as much as possible in an attempt to keep dust out. The only alternative ist to give up this hobby of mine for good, which I have decided not to do (yet...?). My new camcorder should arrive soon, on to the next meeting!
