LMS 46233 The Duchess of Sutherland was at the helm of SRPS Railtours Excursion railtour northbound from Crewe by Coronation Class 46233 Duchess of Sutherland along the West Coast Main Line over Shap and Beattock summits to Polmont . The LMS Coronation Class, designed by Sir William Stanier and built at Crewe, were the most powerful passenger steam locomotives ever to be built for the British railway network. 46233 is owned by The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust and is first seen near Forton before the water stop at Carnforth sporting the Caledonian headboard but with a load of nine the Duchess hardly broke stride ! We then move onto Salterwath with 46233 making short work of the climb towards Shap summit .The next two shots see 46233 at Ecclefechan and finally near Beattock summit but with the train running slightly late the light had totally gone so its a shot in the dark .Messed around with the Sony camera settings today so the picture may not be as good as it could have been in the 1st and 3rd shots. Thanks to my mate Stewart for the lift from Shap to Beattock .
