An ionic bond is a type of chemical bond formed by the complete transfer of one or more electrons from one atom to another. This transfer usually occurs between a metal and a non-metal atom. When an atom loses electrons, it becomes a positively charged ion (cation), and when an atom gains electrons, it becomes a negatively charged ion (anion). The strong electrostatic attraction between these oppositely charged ions results in the formation of an ionic bond. In Unit 3, Topic 3.2(a) of 9th Class Chemistry (Punjab Board), students study how ionic bonds are formed, with sodium chloride (NaCl) as a common example. Ionic compounds generally have high melting and boiling points, are often soluble in water, and can conduct electricity when molten or dissolved in water. Understanding ionic bonding helps explain the structure and properties of many important compounds used in daily life and industry. #IonicBond #ChemicalBond #ElectronTransfer #CationAndAnion #ElectrostaticAttraction #Unit3Chemistry #Class9Chemistry #PunjabBoard #BasicChemistry #NaCl
