Amazing & Fun Delta MD88 Landing LGA Last Minute RWY Change Oct 14 2012

I had an opportunity a few weeks ago to fly Delta 1748, an MD88 from Detroit to New York Laguardia. After missing my original flight 24 hours earlier and staying up all night (flying Seattle to Detroit to Laguardia to Halifax) it was well worth it. On this particular flight, the captain received a message from the LGA control tower to not land on runway 22 and to either go to the back of the line or skip through and land on RWY 31. He choose to do some fancy flying and immediately line up on Runway 31 after aborting his approach to runway 22. Needless to say, to maneuver and line up to runway 31 which is perpendicular to runway 22 took some fancy flying. With flaps extended, flying at a low atlitude (couple thousand feet) the captain consistently throttles his engines in trying to reposition his MD88 to make it on time. In doing so, I had the best MD88 ride EVER!!!! As a bonus, we ended up landing hard and fast......requiring full reverse thrust upon touch down. Turn up the volume and enjoy the Pratt and Whitney JT8D-219s!!!! It was alot of fun and I'm glad I missed my original Delta flight from Seattle. Thanks Delta!!!!!!!! Also, I spoke to the captain after landing and he said it was his first time in 18 years that he ever made a landing like that at LGA. Enjoy!
