WELCOME TO FINE ART EXPLAINED This Piece, called A Bar at the Folies-Bergére by Édouard Manet. French artist Édouard Manet was a trailblazer for his time because he rejected conventional painting methods and instead painted scenes and characters based on the life and times of his own day. His painting "Luncheon on the Grass" (Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe) at the 1863 Salon des Refuses incited both the ire of critics and the excitement of the young artists who would go on to form the core of the Impressionist movement.
