As they are necessary to build a fresh urban environment, safety management is also an important element. On this week’s #Lab_Tube, we explore the Department of Geotechnical Engineering Research of Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology. They have developed an AI robot that can detect possible risk factors in underground spaces. The inspection robot for utility tunnel is a small-sized autonomous vehicle with a robot arm. And it can freely move around narrow and dark underground spaces. Also, an AI program with an embedded image sensor can analyze the cracks. The research team has promoted studies to develop a robot that can detect exfoliation and water leakage as well.
