And NOT because this scene is either “so great” or “so cute”. Most certainly NOT because it is “so smart”! IT’S FAR FROM GREAT AND NOT ANY CLOSER TO SMART. In this video essay, I uncover in depth the subtleties and problematic aspects of the famous flashback from Season 2 of Arcane that features Vander, Silco and Felicia (none other than the deceased mother of Vi and Jinx/Powder) as young adults. I have been feeling very disappointed and disturbed by this scene ever since I first watched it on November 16th, 2024. As a fervent fan of Arcane and of the rich lore of League of Legends, I NEED to address this and share my thoughts in a structured format. Because, believe it or not, the situation has somewhat evolved ONE YEAR after the release of Arcane’s Final Chapter. After giving my opinion (very passionately, might I add) and heavily backing it up with facts and observations from Season 1 of Arcane, I touch on the lore for the character of Warwick from League of Legends, then I reveal a video that is admittedly the cause for this very essay. And before you even think to ask, no, I am not obsessed with Vander, Silco and Felicia’s backstory because I write too much fan-fiction for my own good. No one would enjoy watching a perfectly satisfying gangster story get warped into a ridiculous Netflix rom-com. And, YES, I still love Arcane. Arcane is remarkably difficult to hate, despite the thorny (pun unintended) problems that Season 2 presented to its worldwide audience. PS: I mostly stay in my realm, which is being judgemental and highly critical about the storytelling of the show. Neither visual art nor music are my fields, therefore I purposefully do not include too much analysis on these fronts in the video. 💙💙💙💙 TABLE OF CONTENTS 4:28 Chapter 1: Everything wrong with the scene itself and the love triangle implications 17:51 Chapter 2: The inconsistencies with what we knew from Season 1 35:11 Chapter 3: The impact of League of Legends’ lore (or lack thereof) 38:13 Chapter 4: What Alex Yee has revealed 💙💙💙💙 Here is a link to the original Arcane: Looking Back | Episode 1: Untold Stories video: • Arcane: Looking Back | Episode 1: Untold S... 💙💙💙💙 My script was fully written by me and neither my words nor my voice were generated using AI software or websites; my labor of love is completely human!
