This video demonstrates the power of the proprietary S-Chelate technology, as formulated and produced by Align Chemical, to encourage healthy plant growth under all soil and growing media conditions. Specifically it compares the S-Chelate technology with traditional methods for introducing essential micronutrients into crop nutrition and shows how it remains soluble across a far greater pH range of soil and other growing media. Chemistry Not Mystery Small quantities of various minerals are essential to the healthy growth of plants and S-Chelates have been developed to deliver the micronutrients each plant requires in a more efficient way than any alternative, irrespective of the type of soil in which the plant is grown. Our unique chelating agent is produced through a biological fermentation process instead of the established synthetic chemical processes used for existing chelates. This makes them more environmentally friendly than existing chelates by being non bio-accumulative and produces the dramatic buffering effect illustrated by the titration with Sodium Hydroxide which enables exposure to far more alkali before precipitation occurs. Furthermore, although chelated micronutrients contain much lower levels of the minerals than non-chelated micronutrients, much more of the mineral can get into the plant. What are the main benefits of using S-Chelate Nutrients? • Eco-Friendly - do not build up in the environment when applied to field crops • Also supplied as a water soluble powder concentrate which means less plastic waste compared to ready to use products which are usually 95% + water • Wider pH range – function across a wider pH range than competitive products • Potentially more efficient – the nutrients are quickly transported into the plant • Versatile - compatible with most pesticides and fertilizers • Adaptable – suitable to apply as foliar treatment or as coating to NPK granules Who is it for? S-Chelate technology can provide benefits to many, from the Agronomist who needs a special agent to rectify the deficiencies in the soil to the home gardener wanting to improve the look of their indoor plants. S-Chelate products are ready to play an important part in successful agriculture, horticulture, gardening and are being used in the amenity sector stimulating health in grass surfaces for golf courses and other sports surfaces as well as public parks. Remarkable difference shown in our laboratory tests: The S-chelate micronutrient products enable plants to obtain the micronutrients they need for healthy growth, whatever the nature of the soil that they are grown in. Laboratory tests have demonstrated their advantage compared with most commonly used micronutrient supplements as well as the other chelated products available on the market. The video shows examples of this by comparing the biologically available pH ranges of some standard micronutrient products with our S-Chelate grades. Firstly we looked at Manganese. This is important for the healthy growth of all plants because a deficiency of this nutrient can reduce photosynthesis. It is often delivered to crops by applying it as the mineral salt Manganese Sulphate. In each case we have produced a 1% solution by dissolving 1 gram in 100ml of deionised water. In this dissolved state, the Manganese micronutrient can be absorbed by plants. However, higher alkalinity in the soil locks up the Manganese and therefore our test for each product was to determine the amount of alkali the solution can absorb and still remain dissolved. We employed a solution of Sodium Hydroxide as a controllable laboratory alkali and we measured the pH content to establish the range over which each product remains biologically available. As we increased the alkalinity, two main differences were noticed between the Manganese Sulphate and the S-Chelated Manganese. After just 0.5 ml of Sodium Hydroxide was added to the Manganese Sulphate, increasing the pH value from 7.3 to just 8.7, it quickly dropped out of solution, which would make it impossible for the plants to absorb. By comparison the S-Chelate Manganese solution copes with a much more alkaline solution, rising to a pH value around 12.2 before it drops out of solution. By which point it has absorbed 21.7ml of the Sodium Hydroxide solution. Please note that pH is a logarithmic scale so that pH 12 is 1000 times more alkaline than pH 9! Similar results were obtained by comparison with the principal sources for other micronutrients with our S-Chelate grades. As you will see, the differences are remarkable.
