#KingCoalPBS | http://www.pbs.org/pov/kingcoal Two excerpts from KING COAL featuring performers, Shodekeh Talifero (breath artist), Lou Maiuri (flatfoot dancer), Jesse Milnes (fiddle) and Emily Miller (vocals). Shodekeh records a library of breath art for KING COAL at Gaudineer Knob in the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. His work is used throughout the film as part of the sound design and score. Lou, who has been flatfoot dancing for most of his life, performs with old time musicians, Jesse and Emily, in Lost Creek, West Virginia. A lyrical tapestry of a place and people, King Coal meditates on the complex history and future of the coal industry, the communities it has shaped, and the myths it has created. The film reshapes the boundaries of documentary filmmaking and transcends time and place, untangling the pain from the beauty, and illuminating the innately human capacity for imagination and change. King Coal had its national broadcast premiere on POV on Monday, June 24, 2024, on PBS, pbs.org, and the PBS App.
