The Vefsna Elvefestival is held in Trofors, Northern Norway, where snowmelt and liquid sunshine keep the rivers running all summer. The festival brings together kayakers from all over the world to enjoy prime conditions on word class rivers and evenings around the campfire. A special highlight this year was the pinball race: six teams (each team comprising three kayakers) chased yoga-balls down the rapids of the Auster-Vefsna, starting below ’Ragnarok’. ’Elysium’ was the rapid to watch the competitors spectacularly dropping into a hole while putting up a good fight for their balls. Later, everyone jumped into the rafts for the RiverNorth rafting competition on the Festival run. Six rafts were competing down the first two rapids, before a party paddle out – surfing big waves, jumping off cliffs, and flipping the whole way down. The next day started with a mass start endurance race on the Festival run, testing the fitness of the competitors. After paddling all the way down to the take-out, the athletes had to run to the finish-line at the booty bar. Last but not least, kayakers, locals, and kids got together in the evening to demonstrate their rescuing skills and to have some fun at the Palm Throwbag olympics. Besides the competitions, the festival included a stay in the beautiful wilderness camp of RiverNorth, a guided trip, kids activities, a communal dinner and shuttle to all competitions. The booty bar, sauna, and hottub guaranteed a good time after kayaking, especially during the Saturday night party.
