Join our adventure as we explore Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument near Florissant, Colorado. It’s an amazing area full of natural geological wonders. It offers visitors a memorable glimpse into an ancient past, showcasing a rich diversity of fossils, towering petrified trees, and stunning scenery. One of the most remarkable features of Florissant Fossil Beds is its abundance of well-preserved fossils dating back over 34 million years. Among the fossils found here are the remarkably detailed impressions of insects. These fossils are so well-preserved the details of their wings and bodies can still be observed. The stars of the park, however, are the many fossilized stumps of once giant Redwood trees that now form a petrified forest. Over thousands of years, these trees were buried by volcanic ash and mineral-rich waters, which slowly replaced the organic material in the trees with minerals, resulting in their preservation. Today, visitors can marvel at these petrified trees as they hike through the park, imagining the lush Redwood forests once covering the landscape. Visitors can explore scenic trails that wind through modern diverse habitats, offering opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and photography. Whether you're a seasoned paleontologist, an avid hiker, or simply someone seeking a peaceful retreat, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument has something to offer everyone. Make sure to stay on the designated trials as the fossils are very fragile and can be easily damaged. We’re happy you joined us.
