The power of this lengthy supplication of Baháʼuʼlláh can be seen in its final entreaty: “And again do I beseech Thee . . . to protect the bearer of this blessed Tablet, and whoso reciteth it, and whoso cometh upon it, and whoso passeth around the house wherein it is. Heal Thou, then, by it every sick, diseased and poor one, from every tribulation and distress, from every loathsome affliction and sorrow, and guide Thou by it whosoever desireth to enter upon the paths of Thy guidance, and the ways of Thy forgiveness and grace.” The Long Healing Prayer is especially fascinating from a linguistic perspective, in that it is filled with novel names and titles for God—the products of innovative combinations of certain roots and forms—that did not previously exist in Arabic. Moreover, the prayer, ostensibly revealed only in Arabic, in fact includes a number of Persian words (ján, “my Soul”; jánán, “my Beloved”; khuwán, “table”). According to a message from the Universal House of Justice, this is probably the prayer Shoghi Effendi was referring to when he stated that “the Healing Prayer,” along with a few other supplications, “have been invested by Bahá’u’lláh with a special potency and significance.” The Utterance Project team would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Daniel Pschaida for providing them with a transliteration and vocalized Arabic typescript of this prayer, which served as a base for the text used in this video.
