The Strange and Beautiful Herb Plant Collection. Why I think growing things is 'counterculture' .

The Strange and Beautiful Collection in our online store this week is much more than a collection of herbs to us. It reflects our view that growing things is actually quite counterculture and definitely very personal. We wanted to use this post this morning to explain why this collection is so important to us and why it speaks to us personally. Sometimes horticulture can be quite conformist, it’s common to be told what is considered ‘good’ garden design or planting combinations. But we think that designing a growing space is intensely personal. A little like getting a tattoo or choosing your hair cut, your growing space should reflect YOU. It should be filled with whatever makes you happy, flavours that you enjoy eating and drinking. It should be filled with aromas that excite and engage your senses. But most importantly it should make you smile. YOU are the only judge that matters. The plants featured within the Strange and Beautiful Collection of herbs had to meet VERY strict criteria. They had to be strange of beautiful or indeed both. They reflect our strong belief that being different is amazing. That growing varieties that are unusual and unique to yourself makes life better. This is a collection that celebrates being different that focusses on the unusual. We got quite ‘deep’ there didn’t we?
