A transcription of one of the most famous arias of all time--"And the stars were shining"--from the third act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca. Composed in 1900, this despairing tune is sung by the opera's tenor, Mario Cavaradossi, a painter who has fallen in love with the famous diva Tosca, while he waits for his execution by firing line on the roof of Castel Sant'Angelo. The video was recorded in a single take using an iPhone 5s, and edited in Adobe Premiere. The audio was recorded with ATG Perception 220 mics, a Scarlett 2i2, and Audacity...on a Windows machine. Challenges native to pulling video off of an iPhone for ingestion into Adobe resulted in either accepting lossy video quality, or less than ideal sync between video and audio. The fade -to-black moments permitted realigning video and audio... Perhaps a future edit will disguise these with some B-roll footage. The piano is performed by the arranger--Paolo Toscano...and is ripped from a CD--so excuse the slightly less than perfect ensemble playing. The CD did a lousy job of following my lead. :-) I've added a bit of reverb to match the ambience of the recorded piano. I think it adds a bit to the lonely and sad nature of this tune.
