EP Desk, Damro | 8 February 2026: 40 Mariyang-Geku MLA Oni Panyang, on the occasion of the unveiling of the Pillars of Brotherhood (Pertin Budum Kebang – PBBK), expressed his deep emotional connection with the event, stating that he feels fortunate to have maternal relatives (mama) from the community and considers their blessings as his greatest strength. Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest MLA Panyang said that inaugurating the pillars dedicated to the four brothers is one of the happiest moments of his life, as it symbolises unity, love, and the rich legacy passed down by forefathers. He assured the people that a community hall for the Pertin surname will be constructed to preserve culture and strengthen social bonding. Highlighting future development plans, the Chief Guest announced a green initiative under which 500 cherry blossom saplings will be planted during the rainy season through grafting, covering areas from Rane Monying to Damro. He appealed to the public to participate voluntarily in this social service, adding that once the flowers bloom, the region has the potential to emerge as a major tourist attraction. Oni Panyang further said that the scenic beauty of cherry blossoms would naturally go viral on social media, helping the region gain wider recognition and address long-standing neglect. He also mentioned that several developmental works, including Borang, Katan, and other infrastructure projects, have already been undertaken. “I am still young and welcome feedback, ideology, and innovative ideas from the people,” he said, adding that Damro is his backbone and will always remain close to his heart. The Chief Guest also informed that financial assistance and pending funds would be transferred by the end of March, requesting the public to remain patient until then. Speaking on the occasion, Tashiram Pertin highlighted the significance of the unveiling of the statue representing the four brothers—Ripuk, Rome, Dang, and Rapul. He stated that the brothers lived together throughout their lives and that their descendants continue to remain united even today. Drawing inspiration from their forefathers, he said the pillars teach values of love, mutual support, and togetherness. “Their goodness still lives on like a kahani passed down through generations. This pillar reminds us that our grandparents are still with us in spirit,” he said. He also informed that the work was initiated by the UTT team generation and that all materials used for the construction were brought from outside. The programme concluded with a strong message of unity, development, and collective responsibility towards preserving heritage while embracing progress.
