The global bond market rout reversed on Thursday after weaker US jobs data set the stage for an interest rate cut from the US Federal Reserve in September, which is now fully priced in by the market. In the previous session, yields on 30-year US treasuries hit five per cent, a level not seen since Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariffs sparked a revolt among bond investors. Despite the now relative calm in the market, the head of financial markets strategy at Westpac, Martin Whetton, says jitters among bond investors remain. Bond investors have been digesting months of turmoil in Trump's trade and tariff strategy and his attacks on the US Federal Reserve.
