“Victory at Sea” was once listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s longest symphony. The “symphony” ran for 13 hours, and was divided into 26 movements. Each movement was designed to provide the background music for one of the 26-episodes of the television documentary “Victory at Sea” which aired on NBC from October 26,1952 to May 3, 1953. The music was built on 12 brilliant themes composed by Richard Rodgers. Robert Russell Bennett arranged, developed, and expanded on these themes to create the final masterpiece, and conducted the NBC Orchestra to produce the recording. “Hard Work” (originally titled by Rodgers as “Mustering of Forces”) was one of those memorable themes. It is a thrill to present an original organ arrangement of this theme here. Arranged for organ and performed by Harry Garland on March 30, 2025.
