Reyhanli is a Syria-bordering town in Turkey that houses 120,000 Syrian refugees and only 100,000 Turks. Since 2016, Taiwanese architect Chen-Yu Chiu has voluntarily served as the principal architect for constructing a civic center for both locals as well as Syrians living in the area. In this heart-felt talk, Chiu shares his journey of building trust, hope, and faith in humanity as individuals of different backgrounds and ethnicities are brought together in creating this hub. Chen-Yu Chiu is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Bilkent University in Turkey. He is also the Founding Director and Principal Architect of the Taiwan-Reyhanli Centre for World Citizens. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
