Can 80 pounds Heavier 8 years old sled beat the lightest sled on the market? Boost vs Sidewinder – Which One Climbs Better? Which snowmobile climbs better: Polaris Boost or Yamaha Sidewinder? The Yamaha is 6 years older and cost $7,500 less than the Polaris when purchased — even though it had 1,000 km less on the odometer. We put both sleds to the test in some of the most challenging snow conditions of the season. Riding was extremely difficult that day. The Boost started running low on fuel around 35 km, and the Sidewinder not long after. These were some of the last good riding days before the temperatures warmed up and the snow conditions across BC completely deteriorated. Final thoughts: The Sidewinder climbs better at fast speed and low speeds. It keeps moving even when the pace is slow, while the Boost tends to trench and lose momentum. The Boost also struggles to build the same speed as the Sidewinder. So how can a sled that’s about 80 lbs heavier climb better at low speed? One big reason is the Yamaha’s very shallow track attack angle, which clearly helps it stay on top and keep moving in tough conditions.
