Burning the Torma, Tibetan tantric ceremony

A "torma", a sculpture made of flour and butter, used in tantric ceremonies, is being carried by monks of the Gontse Gaden Rabgyel Ling Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh, far northeast India, to the place where the skull-shaped sculpture is placed in a shrine of straw and ritually burnt. The procession is accompanied by monks playing different instruments and a large crowd of local people (this made it sometimes difficult to get a good view!). Back at the temple, the monks with yellow headdresses play handheld drums and cymbals during low-voice throat chanting and file back into the main temple.
