Female genital mutilation (FGM) also known as circumcision or cutting continues to be practiced widely on young girls, with numbers increasing during the summer school holidays when girls are taken out of the UK to be cut. FGM is illegal in the UK and is child abuse. Despite this and the increasing number of campaigns for FGM to be stopped, the practice still continues in many communities. This NHS film explores the severe long term health impacts FGM has on women and girls and considers why it still happens and what communities can do to end the practice for good.
