The Gambler's Fallacy: Casinos and the Gambler's Ruin (5/6)

This video is the fifth in a six-part series on the Gambler’s Fallacy. In this video I show how to calculate the “expected value” of an act, and use this illustrate the concept of a “house edge” in roulette — this is the gambling advantage that ensures that casinos make money in the long run. In this video I also illustrate a concept in probability theory known as the “gambler’s ruin”. This is a theorem that states that in a fair bet against a player with infinite wealth you are guaranteed to lose (eventually).
