Award-winning filmmaker Yuriko Gamo Romer joins host Shane Barclay on this episode of JapanBall's #ChatterUp! Recap: https://japanball.com/filmmaker-yurik... Full transcript: https://japanball.com/full-transcript... Based in San Francisco, Gamo Romer holds a Master’s degree in documentary filmmaking from Stanford University and is a Student Academy Award winner, National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Scholar, and American Association of Japanese University Women Scholar. She most recently directed and produced “Mrs. Judo: Be Strong, Be Gentle, Be Beautiful," a biographical documentary about Keiko Fukuda, the first woman to attain the 10th degree black belt in judo. That film traveled to more than 25 film festivals internationally and was awarded the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary at the International Festival of Sport Films in Moscow and was broadcast nationally on PBS. Her current documentary project, and the reason why she joined JapanBall for this episode, is “Diamond Diplomacy,” which explores the relationship between the United States and Japan through a shared love of baseball. The film is currently in production. More information can be found at DiamondDiplomacy.com.
