Though cotton handloom sarees of Daulatabad have a distinguished signature boarder and unique colors, the glory of these sarees is shadowed by other more famous varieties of handloom sarees of Telangana. Traditionally, women farmers, livestock owners and others from this region preferred these sarees as they are long lasting and hardy. Wearing these sarees is intricately linked to traditions and festivals of this region. With declining demand, several handloom weavers (cotton sarees) of this village have moved to other occupations. Out of 42 handloom weavers, only 10 of them weave sarees/ other cotton cloth now in Daultabad. Ramulu is one such handloom weaver. His family (he, wife and son) is engaged in weaving cotton sarees in the village, with a handloom at home. They are continuing this tradition for the interest in this occupation, though they earn little money. Younger generation is not interested in this occupation. Ramulu and his family members weave cloth (sarees/ lungees) against order. They are occupied throughout the year, with the orders they ger from clients (local/ non-local). This film highlights the intricacies of the weaving these cotton sarees, against all odds. Each saree takes about 4 days to weave, and the family earns about Rs 800 to 1200. These sarees represent an art and tradition that is likely to vanish soon, if consumers do not buy them. The society to needs to create demand for such products, which are hand-made, traditional and low-energy consuming.
