Government Says Funds Will Be Sent Directly To Beneficiaries Starting Next Week Government has announced a major breakthrough in addressing the long-standing cattle compensation question in North Eastern Uganda. The State Minister for Northern Uganda, Dr. Kenneth Omona, today addressed a press conference in Lira City, calling on religious, cultural, and political leaders to prepare communities for the rollout of what he described as a historic wealth-creation intervention in which every household will get 5m shillings. Ambience State Minister for Northern Uganda Dr. Kenneth Omona has called on key stakeholders, particularly religious and cultural leaders to take lead in sensitizing communities ahead of government’s planned cattle compensation program set to begin next week. According to the minister, government has already secured 80 billion shillings, with each household set to receive five million shillings, disbursed in phases over the next five years. Bite… Responding to critics who argue that the compensation program is merely political rhetoric, Dr. Omona dismissed the claims as unfounded, citing past government programs that were launched and successfully implemented. Bite… Former minister Sam Engola and Oyam South parliamentary candidate Patrick Ogwang Obura applauded government for the initiative, calling for speedy implementation and transparency, especially in identifying beneficiaries. POPs Dr. Omona disclosed that implementation will begin as early as next week, starting with the identification of beneficiaries at the parish level. He emphasized that funds will be sent directly to beneficiaries’ mobile phones, a move intended to promote transparency and reduce interference. Bite… Beyond cattle compensation, Dr. Omona also announced that NUSAF IV has been approved, alongside an additional 65 billion shillings earmarked for coffee growing, as government intensifies efforts to lift Northern Uganda out of poverty. He noted that several infrastructure projects are also ongoing across the region.
