The True 600 Charity Steam Run (600 Miles By Steam In Aid of Mind UK & Invictus Trust)
In April 2019, a challenge was undertaken to drive a steam engine (Foster Tractor no. 14608 'Ikanopit') 600 miles from Leicestershire to Cornwall and back again. This challenge was in aid of Mind UK and the Invictus Trust. Over the course of 4 days the engine traversed its way from Leicestershire to Cornwall, (of which this video depicts) some 300 miles in mixed weather conditions. I was lucky enough to be asked to follow the engine and crew on its journey to Cornwall and it was certainly an unforgettable trip. Let’s give you some back story as to why/how this challenge was made. Back in the Christmas/New Year period of 2018 the organiser of this event tragically lost his son through his battles with mental illness. The organiser wanted to raise money in his son’s memory and felt that the best way to was through his lifelong passion for steam. So, through some discussions with the engine owners, fundraisers and charities some plans were drawn up and thus this challenge was born.
