Hundreds take part in mass paddle out protest against sewage

Hundreds took to the water at a beach in Cornwall at the weekend for a mass paddle-out protest against sewage. Under blue skies, crowds of people met at Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth where there have been frequent sewage discharges in the area. Surfers, paddle-boarders, kayakers and swimmers took to the water, following impassioned speeches on the beach. It was held as part of Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) nationwide protest against bathing water discharges, with other protests taking place at 12 bathing spots around the UK, including Tinside Beach East in Plymouth. The charity is calling for bathing spots to be protected from discharges and a 90 per cent reduction in sewage discharges by 2030.
