What began as a death and black metal band is now an institution in gothic metal and psychedelic rock: the Swedish band Tiamat, led by charismatic frontman Johan Endlund. After changing their name to Tiamat, the band around singer Johan ‘Hellslaughter’ Edlund quickly moved away from their original sound and allowed influences from psychedelic rock and gothic metal. Thanks to filigree melodies and the use of keyboards, the band's sound becomes increasingly atmospheric and dense. Influences from bands such as Pink Floyd or Sisters Of Mercy can be heard here and there, and the frequent excursions into different styles do not make it easy for many fans to remain loyal to the band.
