Museum Park Archeon is an open-air museum near Alphen aan den Rijn in the Netherlands that shows the Netherlands during prehistoric times, Roman times and the Middle Ages through living history. The park has been laid out according to era in the three areas. In those areas are 45 structures built after a reconstruction of an archaeological site. Park staff, dressed in the costume of the era in question, re-enact typical activities for their era, such as weaving, working the land and making pots, while they educate visitors about these activities. Visitors can also try historical activities themselves, such as archery in the Middle Ages or creating mosaics with stone in Roman times. Themed events such as gladiator fights are organized according to the principles of living history. An educational program for schools is offered and group tours can be organized. During the high season a gladiator fight takes place almost every day. Other major events include the Roman Festival, which often takes place in the first half of August, the Viking Market, and the Midwinter Fair, an annual fantasy event that takes place in December.
