"Talk to Me, Tell Me Stories" by Kumu Kaua'i’iki Waimea, Hawai'i This story and mele (song) began over 200 years ago on the Island of Kaua'i, and continues to this day.. all over the world. This is a story about the exploitation of nature, for material or monetary gain. Kumu Hula Kaua'i’iki of the Island of Kaua'i relates, “the Sandalwood trees caused the Hawaiian People to die out, and fade away. . . How the Sandalwood was traded, the wood and the trees were traded, and what happened? The people died. The crops died. Everybody died. It was a detriment. . .” As history teaches, and as we can witness ourselves in present time, nobody wins when we forsake nature and human community for profit. || Mālama Honua | “Care for our Island Earth” || Mahalo nui to Trevor Thorpe for film & edit collaboration Facebook: / waveofconsciousness
