On this episode of The Big Picture, I speak with Bill Whiting, founder of Bill’s Blend Wine, a passion that turned into a business he founded to pay tribute to his Italian heritage and family ties to the wine business. Bill, also a graduate of The University of Dayton (Go Flyers!), shares the story going back to 2013, when he and colleagues travelled to the Washington Grape Growers Association annual fundraiser, and came home with a winning bid of one ton of Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and a French/American oak barrel. Bill’s driving belief is to give back more than you take. He tells the story of flying out to Washington in August 2023 to begin bottling his second vintage of Cabernet and first vintage of Rose, and hearing of the devastating wildfires destroying Maui. At that moment, he knew he had to do something to help. Bill decided to donate 100% of the proceeds from these vintages to five local Maui non-profit organizations directly helping local residents.
