"Navdnaya really is a response to the corporate takeover of seeds and lifeforms on this planet?" -Vandana Shiva Produced by, Alison Caldwell ©2012 All rights reserved. NAVDANYA is a women-centered movement created by Dr. Vandana Shiva over 30 years ago in India to defend seed and food sovereignty and small farmers. Navdanya is a network of seed keepers and organic producers spread across 22 states in India. Navdanya has helped set up 122 community seed banks across the country, trained over 9,00,000 farmers in seed sovereignty, food sovereignty, and sustainable agriculture over the past two decades, and helped set up the largest direct marketing, fair trade organic network in the country. Navdanya is a movement for the protection of biological and cultural diversity. Navdanya promotes a new agricultural and economic paradigm, a culture of food for health, where ecological responsibility and economic justice replace the present greed, consumerism, and competition that have become dominant in society. Navdanya aims to restore the common good as a foundation for a renewed sense of community, solidarity, and a culture of peace. The Navdanya Biodiversity Research Farm is a thriving 45-acre living Earth community of organic crops, including cereals, legumes, vegetables, spices, fruits, flowers, and medicinal plants. It also serves as a living system where farmers, school groups, and interns can learn about Navdanya's organic farming and agroecology methods.
