This two-hectare garden is one of the hidden jewels of the Dandneong Ranges, featuring more than 1400 different species of native plants, a retail plant nursery, community room and lovely views. Established in 1965, Karwarra is one of the few public gardens where native plants are used exclusively, giving visitors the opportunity to see how they can be used effectively as part of a landscaped garden. Karwarra is responsible for the Garden Plant Conservation Association of Australia Boronia and Telopea (Waratah) Collection. The Waratahs produce a stunning display of colour in the garden in late September to mid October. It is owned and operated by Yarra Ranges Council with support and assistance from the 'Friends of Karwarra' group. A small function room is also available for community groups. BBQ's and picnic tables are also available at the Kalorama Memorial Reserve. Opening Hours: Monday - Closed Tuesday to Friday 10am–4pm Saturday and Sunday 1–4pm. Entry is free. Closed on Total Fire Ban Days and during extreme weather.
