With pineapple farming being a part of Jake Brooks' family for more than 68 years, Brooks and Sons pineapple farm in Yeppoon, QLD, now grows more than 2.5 million pineapples a year – with 19,230 being sold per week. From severe cyclones and droughts to floods and bushfires, Jake has seen it all when it comes to environmental adversity. Recalling the recent devastating bushfires, he talks about how within 24 hours, 2000-3000 acres of property were destroyed. “We lost tractors, forklifts and about 200,000 pineapple plants,” Jake says. Despite all this, Jake shares his inspirational optimism and why he is as passionate as ever about growing Australian pineapples. Did you know? Growing pineapples is a slow process.
