As of August 2025, a total of 6,300 native trees have been planted under the Tauhara Kitea project through our public and community planting efforts. Under Tauhara Ngāwhā project, a further 4,650 native trees have been planted bringing our combined total to nearly 11,000 native trees across both sites this year. With this, it means a total of 23,000 trees planted for the project. These milestones reflect our shared dedication to restoring the ecological and cultural integrity of Tauhara Maunga and its surrounding landscapes. The Tauhara Kitea project is a four-year native afforestation initiative on Tauhara Middle 15 whenua, aimed at retiring and revegetating 16 hectares as part of Te Mana o Tauhara’s wider strategy. This sits in a wider context of the regenerative agricultural transition of all the partnered land trusts, building food system resilience into our production systems that also restores the soil and biodiversity of these precious whenua. The collaboration between the Trusts and the community reflects a shared commitment to collective service and kaitiakitanga. Through working together in service to both people and nature, we can restore, reconnect, and regenerate the wellbeing of Tauhara Maunga and the surrounding whenua for the benefit of future generations.
