My purchase of a Duc was really an impulse buy, a product of my regular craigslist browsing and the desire to own a sportbike, however the seed was planted many, many years before. My father worked his entire adult life in the automotive industry, and the zenith of such a career path, to him, was owning a dealership. The problem is, SIGNIFICANT financial backing is required for a car dealership is required, and we never really had it. My dad's next thought - motorcycle dealership? It never happened, but he took me to a few trade shows as a child that planted the Ducati "seed". Fast forward, in 2003, when the Ducati 749 and 999 were first in production, I was turning 15. The 749 was a brand new middle weight superbike right when I was getting my drivers' license. As much as joke about the maintenance and reliability of the Ducati, I do love it. There is something special about it that just feels different than a Japanese bike, and I can't imagine my stable without some kind of a Ducati in it. Please share your stories in the comments!!
