VENICE, CA – Thursday, April 17, 2025 – A coordinated homeless encampment cleanup took place Thursday morning along Third Street and the Venice Way Alley in Venice, as part of a continuing effort to address public health, safety, and sanitation concerns in the area. Led by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Department of Public Works, the operation involved the removal of tents, personal belongings, and scattered debris from sidewalks, alleys and public spaces. Sanitation crews wearing protective gear cleared both hazardous and non-hazardous materials from the area. The cleanup was conducted under Los Angeles Municipal Code (LAMC) Section 56.11, which regulates the storage of personal property in public spaces. Advance notice had been posted at the site, and individuals present were given 15 minutes to collect their belongings. Items left behind after that window were discarded by city crews. No arrests or citations were reported during the operation. LAPD officers maintained a security presence throughout, ensuring safety and order as sanitation crews carried out their duties. Absent from the sweep were environmental specialists from Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., outreach workers from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and a representative from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office—all of whom have regularly participated in prior operations. City officials reaffirmed that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to maintain public accessibility and hygiene while continuing to connect unhoused residents with services, shelter options, and long-term support resources.
