Hi everyone and welcome to Sassenach Quilts at The Cloth House Today we are going to show you how to make the brand new “Only Yoking! Quilt©” from men’s shirts by Sassenach Quilts. It’s a really simple pattern created here in The Cloth House that is free and easily done on a longarm machine as QAYG, but could also be pieced on a domestic machine first and then quilted. Here at The Cloth House we use sustainable methods as much as possible, and once you have cut up and prepared your shirt (see below for the link on my video how to do that), you have yokes from the shoulders, collars and cuffs, which look as though you can do nothing with them….. Only Joking ! Of course you can …. and this pattern and video shows you how to make a great throw-size quilt that is fabulous on the sofa on a winters night, great as a travel blanket, or even as a picnic blanket in the summer. The finished size of mine was 75x65 inches. The Yokes are arranged in rows and then smaller scraps put in the oval and diamond “windows” as pops of colour. They are then raw edge appliquéd to the batting and backing and so quilted as you go along. Some rows are 4 yokes and some rows are 5 yokes, it doesn’t matter its just pretty, just be happy with the creative process, your quilt your rules! If you run out of yokes, use one as a template and cut round fabric from your stash into the shape and no-one will know! I then longarm edge to edge quilted mine on my HandiQuilter MoxieXL as well, to make sure the little bits were all caught in the quilting and used @Prostitcher Lite by @HandiQuilter, and chose the “Clover E2E” pattern as many of the shirts I used have pretty flower designs.
