In 1994, dermatologist, Dr. Foy Cox, demonstrated actual dermatologic skin surgery on Dr. Peppercorn (The Medical Explorer was the patient) as he showed viewers the various ways that moles are surgically removed in the Advanced Dermatology & Laser Center in Yuba City, California. (Most of the procedures are in Part 2.) Dr. Cox demonstrated surgical mole excision and surgical shave removal of a mole. These techniques are used to prevent and diagnose skin cancer. Dr. Cox also discussed the warning signs of skin cancer including melanoma. Dr. Foy Cox continues his busy and highly respected dermatology practice in Yuba City, California, with Dr. Peppercorn. Both dermatologists are now affiliated with Sutter Health. In the Pharmacy Corner, Bob Church discussed new treatments for a viral infection caused by the dormant chicken pox virus called shingles.
