This is a short video clip that demonstrates the capabilities of the Y6 aircraft prototype. For more information about the prototype and the full sized aircraft visit www.electricairspace.com The Y6 by Electric Airspace is an all electric 2 seater VTOL aircraft with few moving parts, full redundancy and power to spare. The vehicle has a steerable nose wheel and can taxi, takeoff and land like a conventional airplane or take off and land vertically like a helicopter. Transitions from hover to forward flight can be done safely against the wind, with the wind or in a crosswind without losing altitude. The canard design makes the aircraft safe, efficient and completely stall proof. The vehicle can loose 1 motor on each arm and continue to hover safely. The solid tilt shaft is safer and more robust than individual tilting nacelles and has only 1 moving part. The prototype has thousands of test hours in many wind and weather conditions and the design has been proven safe. The Y6 by Electric Airspace is the closest thing to a real flying car! The aircraft has 6 electric motors, 2 sets of 2 front motors and 1 set of 2 rear motors. While hovering all 6 motors are being used. When transitioned from hover to forward flight the front motors tilt forward and the rear motors are switched off. When transitioning from forward flight to hover the rear motors are switched on. The Y6 is powered by a large bank of lithium ion batteries. The motors, batteries and power electronics run cool to the touch and are never in jeopardy of overheating. The aircraft has conventional ailerons, elevator and rudder control surfaces to assist with forward flight. If all motors are switched off, the aircraft can glide down for a safe controlled landing. For additional safety and piece of mind a common ballistic parachute can easily be installed in the space behind the cockpit.
