Welcome to Day 74 🎹 ⚠️ We are testing the Beta Music Coach software, so things might happen. We just go with the flow. Today I want to see how the AI Music Coach does with helping me relearn a piece I used to play many years ago — “Cristofori’s Dream” by David Lanz. This is not a beginner song. This is the deep end of the pool. I’m genuinely curious how the Music Coach handles something advanced, expressive, and not neatly wrapped inside a lesson structure. This piece breathes. It stretches. It rolls. It doesn’t always behave on a strict grid. So yes… we might be jumping off a cliff here. But I’m hoping my hands and brain remember at least a few things from 20+ years ago. Maybe there’s still some muscle memory hiding in there. Maybe the left and right hands will call a truce. Or maybe they’ll look at each other and say, “We used to do what?” Either way, this will be a great test of how the AI Coach supports relearning a real piece of music, not just completing exercises. ----- Welcome back to the adventure. The 70-year-old guy (that would be me) decided to learn piano again after 20 years… and I’m doing it live, one practice session at a time. Fair warning: I laugh at myself a lot during these sessions. Sometimes because I’m proud… and sometimes because my fingers are doing their own interpretive dance. 🧪 New twist: my practice sessions are now using the Roli AI Music Coach (Beta). That means we get a sneak peek at what’s coming, plus the occasional “well… that wasn’t supposed to happen.” 😄 On Day 67, we hit the reset button and started back at Day 1 specifically to test the Beta and make sure everything’s behaving the way it should. 🎼 Here’s what I’m using for this journey: ROLI Piano (49 keys!) + Airwave And honestly… who wouldn’t love a keyboard that lights up like a rainbow? It’s ridiculous in the best way, and yes… it’s fantastic. Airwave also tracks my hands on the keyboard and shows them in the app, which is equal parts helpful and “well, there’s nowhere to hide now.” The Roli Learn app + AI Music Coach (Beta) It tracks my progress and hands out gold stars. With my luck, if I miss a day, it’ll sit me down for a “we need to talk” moment. And now with the AI Music Coach (Beta), we’re getting a front-row seat to the future of this thing. 📣 Roli has rolled out the new AI Music Coach, and I’ve been invited to use the Beta during my daily practice sessions.
