Here’s one of the most influential and important solos in imo, music (not jazz) MUSIC, history. A 19-year-old Illinois Jacquet was a member of Lionel Hampton’s big band, and in 1942, they recorded this solo. It was so memorable that Jacquet was expected to repeat the solo verbatim any and every time he performed it, even modern performances of this arrangement turn Jacquet’s solo into a soli. But another major detail about this solo is that it was one of the first times a honking-style saxophone solo was recorded. That sound and style later shaped and evolved into the beginnings of modern pop music, R&B, Jump Blues, and rock and roll (to an extent lol) Original recording: • 1942 HITS ARCHIVE: Flying Home - Lionel Ha...
