The Galactic Republic - Star Wars Essential Factions

The Galactic Republic was formed out of the Old Republic about one thousand years before the birth of Anakin Skywalker. For nearly that entire millennium the galaxy experienced peace. That’s not to say planetary or regional conflicts didn’t arise, but there weren’t any galactic level wars similar to the Sith or Clone Wars. For five centuries the Republic thrived and expanded, welcoming new worlds into an era of prosperity. This time became known as the High Republic, when both the Republic and the Jedi Order were at their height of power, influence, and idealism. But their decline would begin when a group of Outer Rim marauders called the Nihil terrorized a corner of the galaxy, opposing the Republic’s spread. The Jedi enacted what they called the Guardian Protocols, a set of rules that pushed them into becoming more like soldiers. Although the Nihil were defeated, the Jedi were fundamentally changed, and the Republic became more corrupt. The Sith Lord Darth Sidious took advantage of that corruption, manipulating several crises culminating in the Clone Wars, and causing his rise to become Supreme Chancellor. When his power was solidified, he wiped out the Jedi, ended the Clone Wars, and changed the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire, a decision that was met with thunderous applause. #starwars #galacticrepublic Subscribe for more Star Wars videos every day!
