This load lifter was already torn to crap, so I figured I’d show a quick field fix. If your load lifter breaks—and it will—it’s probably not gonna happen while you’re standing still. It’s gonna happen when you’ve got 120 pounds on your back and you’re five miles out. These things never break at good times. So here’s what I do: Take some gutted 550 cord, run it through the buckle, and wrap it. Keep wrapping it till it holds. That becomes your new load lifter. Toss the busted factory strap—it’s junk anyway. The adjustment point is right there. Those top load lifters aren’t gonna move once they go. This just gives you something to work with in the field so you’re not stuck with a ruck pulling off your back for the next ten miles. ( the last Darby pass, I had five rucks come in Friday morning wanting their Large Rucks modified before going to Mountain phase in Dahlonega.
