Fortune Flavours visits the Tibetan quarter of Chengdu in search of a Yak Butter Tea. I found a small café in the heart of this district which served strictly Tibetan food for the local monks, I don’t think the owners were expecting me to turn up looking for this beverage and the only way I could communicate what I wanted was by pointing to the stuffed Yak toys in the window and making a drinking gesture. The guy nodded and returned with a full pot of this high calorie salty drink. I was then joined by a Monk who was finishing his lunch in this establishment, he shared photos of his home in Tibet and poured my drinks for me. I cycled the city of Chengdu as a solo traveller on a Vanmoof fixie and it was an incredible experience, I was greeted everywhere I went with warm and friendly people. A truly wonderful city.
