When you are coming to New Mexico to fly fish... These are the trout you hope to find in the Rio Grande Gorge! We have read so much about big Cutbow's swimming up the Rio Grande in the Fall and we have been searching for them hard! Late in the afternoon of our second day I got my first real chance at one of these epic fish! I seriously have no clue how I landed this fish.. It fought me SO hard and the footage never does it justice... and to imagine they only get BIGGER. My winter day dreams will be fixated on this moment. What is a "Cutbow"?? The hybridized offspring of rainbow trout and cutthroat trout. They will tend to have characteristics that resemble a fair mix of both rainbow and cutthroat. These trout are fertile and can naturally reproduce with other cutthroat, rainbows, or cutthroat trout.
