It’s time to get some more tattoos in Thailand. The ritual Sak Yant tattoo by sak Yant arjarn hom in Hua Hin. Sak Yant are the holy tattoos that represent the prayers from the monks for protection and good luck. They are traditionally made with the spear, a pin sharpened into a point. Later they were replaced by the modern tattoo needles, but of course that is not traditional enough for me. My master/teacher arjarn hom is always most happy to take out his old tools and make me a real old school style addition to my body. Off course it hurts…a lot. Many people have the misconception that fully tattooed people don’t feel the pain anymore. Therefor I show you the truth. It still hurts, or even more. As the body remembers the suffering and pain it was inflicted before, it directly goes into "run and hide" mode. When I was a bit more young I enjoyed the new additions of ink into my body, but as the years passed, the only thing in the mind is: when will it stop, when is the tattoo finished? But after a while the point of no return is passed and then you need to fill all the empty spaces on the body. When you look into a mirror, you don’t see the tattoos anymore, you just look at the naked skin that is not covered. When you look at this long enough…the moment comes when you need to go and get some more. It’s a long road of pain, but I never regretted any of it. Even that I know it’s still not finished.
