5 April || Public Opposition Intensifies Against 12MW Ressing Hydro Power Project Over Land Documentation Error The proposed 12MW Ressing Hydro Power Project, led by Nabam Tagi, Managing Director of M/s Gekam Hydro Power Developer Pvt. Ltd., is facing escalating resistance from residents of the Leporiang Circle/Sagalee region. At the center of the growing controversy is a significant land documentation error that has sparked widespread public outcry. Residents of Pape-Sango have strongly asserted that the land earmarked for the project rightfully falls under Pape Panchayat jurisdiction—not Ressing village, as currently indicated in official records. According to the aggrieved community members, the project area includes 23,300 Component-I land, which they claim is part of Pape community land but has been erroneously listed under Ressing village. This alleged misrepresentation has led to renewed protests, with locals voicing fears about the violation of their land rights, potential environmental degradation, and the lack of transparency in the project's land allocation process. The Pape-Sango public is demanding a comprehensive review of the hydro power project's land documentation and an immediate halt to construction activities. As tensions rise, the Pape public has also taken a symbolic stand by officially declaring Pwbv Lvmbun as a community picnic spot, reinforcing their connection to the land and its significance to their identity and heritage. The conflict highlights the urgent need for fair and transparent land dealings, especially in development projects that impact local communities and the environment.
